Only In West Virginia

A friend of mine who lives in the next town over (yes, that would make it a 40 minute drive) noticed this ad in the local paper on election day. Despite the dubious efforts of Neil & Bob from Moorefield, Obama lost the state by 13%. Click on the article to enlarge.

Petersburg, WV

So Kristin had her "Site Selection" event at WVSOM today. This was when everyone picked where they want to do their rotations and the locations that didn't have enough slots went to a lottery. Fortunately for us, the location we wanted had enough spots and we got it. So in the early Summer of 2008 we will be moving to Petersburg, WV. It is another small town in WV, but it cuts 2 hours off my drive to work. So I am excited.

Lion in Lewisburg

Apparently there is an African Lion in the woods near where I live in WV.

Well, I haven't seen it, but I certainly will be more wary walking in the woods for a while.

No Doors?

No Doors?

Despite the fact that I will never live down my mispronunciation of the word Tudor in reference to the style of the house we are renting in WV, the house itself will no longer be subjected to future mistakes of this nature. The owners of the home are having a lot of work done, including residing the home in an awfully bright shade of white. So, Eric, you can continue to make jokes about the number of doors on houses you are looking to buy in Denver, but now I have no doors at all on mine...

Benefits of a Restless Brother

No one has ever accused Eric of being too calm, or sitting still too much. He is the person that presses every button and opens all compartments when getting into a car (OK, I do this too). Given a few minutes with a bike, he will either have fixed everything wrong with it, or caused everything on it to fall off. Lend him your laptop for a moment, and all your saved passwords are cleared and 3 new programs are installed (admittedly useful ones).

But I have to say there are benefits of having a restless brother. Especially when you confine him in the middle of nowhere in West Virgina. Under these circumstances he is left with little to do, so after borrowing your bike, using your laptop, and mowing your lawn, he is bound to start a project of some sort. In this case it was helping me organize my garage. I think the results speak for themselves:

2007_04_20.WV 001

Thanks Eric! See the results of the whole project.

WV House

As most people know, Kristin got into med school in WV. She will be attending WVSOM (or, as local residents call it, 'The O School') starting in August. We went looking for a place to live this past weekend and found a great house for much less than we were paying for a small apartment in DC.

306 Comstock St.
Lewisburg, WV 24901

For more information about Lewisburg click here.

I am not crazy about the Tudor style, but compared with every other place we looked at this house was the best. It certainly beats living in a century old poultry farm house with cows looking in the window.

It will take about 4 hours for me to drive to DC for work, but fortunately I will not have to do this very frequently. Most of the time I will be working remotely from home or one of the local coffee houses with free WI-FI access.

I will upload more pictures taken from a better camera as we move in and get settled. We are moving around the end of July /beginning of August in case anyone reading this is dying to help.
